We wanted to share the torque sequence for the BMW M60 and M62 V8 valve covers. One notable feature of the M60 (and its successor, the M62) is the use of magnesium valve covers, which reduce weight but require a proper tightening sequence and sealant to ensure a leak free install.
When working on these valve covers follow the above tightening sequence and apply black RTV sealant to the timing cover seams and rear half-moon sections. Torque the bolts to 10-15 Nm.
The nuts are designed to bottom out, making it easy to confirm when they’re properly tightened. Torque value for the nuts is 10-15 Nm.
